This past weekend, The Silver Box auditioned for a new part-time job as a cinematographer. This was prompted by all those times when I've been driving and have spotted a scenic photo opportunity, but don’t have the time or place to stop for a picture. So I’ve been quietly experimenting with ways to have our motorhome capture those moments for me when I’m stuck behind the wheel.
The short movie below illustrates my latest attempt to record high definition video while driving. All of the shots were taken without me touching or moving the camera, so the pans and zooms you see were created in post-production. The scenery is not dramatic but will hopefully give you a feel for driving on the backroads in central North Carolina; in fact, all the scenes are from my favorite local road bicycling route in the Jordan Lake region south of Chapel Hill. After I’ve had a chance to experiment a little further, I’ll write a longer blog post about the equipment and the process.
